Gero's backstory:

Well Gero was raised in a cottage far off in the woods alongside Soraya. Nothing really extravagant happens until Gero reaches six years old and Soraya two. Gero and his father had gone out on a hunting trip, due to the fact that they were poor and couldn't afford much of anything. Well, some bandits happen to come and attack Gero and his father, and in turn kidnapping Gero and leaving Gero and Soraya's father with a missing arm.

the bandits take him to this fighting ring where people are to fight for people's amusement and only one person lives and the other gets killed, almost like a coliseum but this isn't medieval times. So he gets thrown into this cell with a bunch of fighters, all being older than him or the same age. He tried to one day stand up for this other boy who was the same age as him who was about to be thrown into the ring with a much older man, however, in turn, he received a long gash across his back from one of the guard's knives.

Gero has is wound cleaned and stitched up by one of the veteran fighters. He was basically Gero's protector for the four years that he had been in the fighting ring. Being scarred and broken watching some of his friends that he had made being slaughtered thus causing him to be rather protective of the friends that he does make when he gets older, including his sister. 

During the times where the guards were not walking around, the veteran fighter helped Gero harness his elemental ability which caused him to learn his lightning ability. One night, Gero was able to give out enough force from his lightning to break off the chains that were holding him, and when a guard walked by Gero touched him and caused him to become electrocuted. It caused a ruckus along the quarters of where the fighters were held and Gero and the Veteran fighter went and rescued all the other fighters, though having to fight guards in order to do so. While Gero and some of the fighters were escaping, the veteran fighter sacrificed his life trying to hold back the guards so the others could escape. And that was a success.

Gero had watched the other fighters head back home to their families and he did the same, wondering how his family and sister were doing. After traveling for a couple days, he would reach the old cottage during nightfall only to see an orange glow and smoke off in the distance. He would watch the cottage burn, but he was shocked when he saw his sister escape the fire that was going on in the home. Though he did not have the heart to reveal himself to her for six more years, he watched over her and helped her with food and supplies whenever he could without being seen. During that time, he also crafted Hkari, the sword that helped him with his long-distance lightning attacks.

After some time when Gero turns 20 and his sister Soraya 16, they re-unite and Gero helps her by being her somewhat protector as they both head to their next destination and next chapter of their story.
